This is our new blog. I want this blog to be useful and help all players have a voice in the direction of where I league needs to go. I can't stress this enough that we need to be respectful of everyone's opinions. If this breaks down into a place to talk crap then I will then shut it down.

How do you do that? I have my own blog with "blogger.com" and can't manage to do that. Where in the settings can I manage this option?

Great blog, by the way! I am a current player and this is great way to fully interact with your guys and express our opinions about the league!

I recently joined your league and played on one of your fields. The park in question is Ayala Park the field was horrible. Wasn't in baseball playing condition the infield was bad and the mound was beyond useable. I cannot believe a league with so many teams can't hire a grounds crew to go and fix these fields to be playable. I'm sorry but this is not baseball this is sandlot baseball. Your league is risking a law suit for injury for poor playing conditions. Thank you for your prompt answer.

Robert said...

I agree with you that we have at least 2 fields that are not in the best of conditions. Unfortunately these are city parks and we are NOT ALLOWED TO WORK on the fields. As we work with the cities to improve the field, they seem to work at their own pace. For example, the Chaparral Park is just as bad. We have been told, they will "fix it" mid August. The question now comes up, stop using these fields and eliminate teams or do we continue to press the cities to allow us to work on the fields. Trust me its a tough question.

Thanks for your honest input.

I thank you for prompt reply I understand the position your league is in. Honestly I think all managers should take responsibilty in bringing a rake to at least fix the mound and home plate area. I understand we all want to play this sport we all love. But we all have jobs and want to be able to go home from a game without any form of injury. Thanks again I hope to someday to play on one of your better fields and enjoy your league.

Anonymous said...

And you will play in better quality fields say you go to the batting cages and work on your infield drills that way you can better improve your skills and move up divisions where we play in some very good quality fields.

Robert said...

Its not that the lower division teams do not deserve better fields. If it was up to me everyone would play on top quality fields. The problem is on how to divide the fields that we do have. The fields at say Chaparral Park or Birdsall are to small for the level of play for the AAA division. This in no way implies that somehow the top division teams league fees pay for better fields. It doesn't all team pay the same amonunt. It costs the league the same amount of money whether a AAA team or A team playos on the field. Its unfortunately the way it has to be. That is why we talk about this before new teams join us so there wont be any surprises.

I've been playing in this league for 3 seasons now and thy problem has been around since I've played. So in three seasons having the same problem they must be some zombies, or you are just blowing smoke up our you know what. I have to agree with the guy that started this chat. This isn't baseball it's a sandlot. I think if you kept good fields and less teams you would have more success. But bottom line is that the money is too good for your pockets... At the end of the day that's what really matters to you

Anonymous said...

Well when you are paying the same amount as the upper division teams, don't you think you deserve the same fields? But I love how they want to be honest about stuff but aren't honest about the whole getting good fields.

Anonymous said...

So what you are implying is that the lower divisions suck? that's what it sounds like to me. Try this for a fit, make the lower divisions pay less,

Robert said...

Again if u attend a league meeting or just talk to me directly i will tell u the same
Thing. I schedule
The upper
Division feams on the bigger fields and the lower division teams on the lower fields.

Robert said...

I am not implying anything like that. The facts are that I have so many fields and so many teams. I have to assign teams to fields based on their levels of play. The cost to use the fields does not vary based on the level of the teams playing on it. I believe every league assigns the games exactly the same way.

Anonymous said...

I still dont see why the fees are so expensive for your crapy league the fields are crap the owners are blunt about we all pay the same and lower divisions shall play in stupid fields you guys need more high school fields and thats the reason your teams leave. You guys should just follow other leagues motos is not about the money its about guys having fun o yeah the riverside san bernardino fee is only 750.00 and all they have is varsity fields and they give trophys to all 1st place divisions and a championship team trophy and have a nice narated championship game with food music and yeah in a nice field.I understand its a business but you guys suck in organazing promoting and looking for better fields.Just tell me how many teams did you lose?

Robert said...

I'm sorry that you feel this league is so crappy but the fees are based on the cost to rent the fields. 65% of every dollar collected goes to pay for the "crappy" fields and 20% for the cost of league provided baseballs. I wish I could secure more high schools but unfortunately its not because we don't try, its because most schools will not rent their fields at any cost. If you know of any available fields, please let me know and as always we will try to secure the field. As for the trophies we have always given trophies to all 1st place teams. As for the teams we "lost", we went from 44 to 50. We are limited to 50 because of the number of fields we have. Finally as for the championship game, I'm not a big fan of a narrated games, music and food at a championship game. I believe the championship game should be the only attraction and should stand by itself.

@ Robert keep up the good work you guys are doing good and I enjoy playing for the aztec baseball league

Anonymous said...

Robert I want to say sorry for bringing this up I did not think this discussion would get so heated. All I wanted to say is that Ayala Park was not in playing condition. I just want to say thank you for running a league so all of the 50 teams have a place to play because if you didn't have the Aztec league. Where would there be for these teams to find a place to play in once again thank you.

Anonymous said...

Agree its all about the baseball experience as a whole, not what the president likes or doesnt like but what the players and the teams want. Have you ever thought of letting someone else help you run the league Robert? It was easy for Max to run this style of league back when there was no internet and there werent many leagues.

Coach D said...

Just to let you guys now my team plays in another league and the same scenario happened to us at ayala park which made us not want to join this league but i think that if everyone works together and helps out and volunteers in our community which is were the crappy fields are at, we can help our local schools and play at "top quality Fields" here. We hate to travel to riverside or Corona every Sunday, but thats were all the new high schools and parks are being rebuilt and the whole community as whole has pitched in running leagues that help out with cost or fundraising to keep these fields in top condition. It starts with groups or leagues like this one you guys got here coming together and building a stronger safer community. So my respects to your whole league since it has roots since early 90s, and congratulations on having such great competition and so many faithful teams but we all gotta come together and be part of our community and give back to the schools and baseball programs for allowing us to play there. My team is here for any league, manager, association, president, or any type of activity, event, or business that has to do with the game we all love which is baseball and helping make a difference in our community. For the record im not here to say our league is better or robert is not doing a good job or anytype of negativity or complaint, my intentions on blogging here is to hopefully give you guys an idea on how we can all play in the top fields and nearby but it takes more than just robert and the aztec league it takes a community to build a better and safer neighborhoods, schools, and parks around here. So keep up the good work Aztec League in running a succesful and legit baseball business and just count on us anything that has to do with fixing our community eventhough we are 110% committed to our league, we are still willing to work with u guys in any type of way we can.

Anonymous said...

I love how all these teams are complaining about the quality of the fields, but at the same time they have to realize the quality of play isnt always at the level of the top division. i should know, i played in the AAA division and i am now playing in the A division with my own team that I manage, and every week i have that problem with my team at time complaining about fields, but all i tell them is that if we want to play on better fields we have to win more games and move our way up... we finally seem to be doing so and i think we will finally be moving up soon. thanks for working so hard Robert to keep this league going so that we can all play the game we love in areas that arent that far

Anonymous said...

I think teams need to take a look at themselves. At one time this league had colton. Rubidoux and Pomona high schools. But due to drinking and fighting. These fields were lost. The league wasn't at fault for that. So don't just place criticism on the league

Anonymous said...

believe it or not i have been playing baseball for this league for 20 some years . i love this game so much that i dont care where i play all you have to do is to try to be careful and try not to be a superstar cause most of us have families to support and have to go to work the nexy day.

Anonymous said...

First of all,Thank you Aztec Baseball League, for letting us play. I believe we can fix the fields ourselves. I had my team kick in $10 each and bought a field drag. We get there early and groom the field. Not the best park, but very playable.

Anonymous said...

It's a Sunday league and we all pay. So the fact that you are satisfied with the fields and favoritism kind of doesn't help. For Robert to just talk and not act is wack, you are the organizer of the league and should be helping with the problems. I'm here one more season and that will be it. Next season I'm switching over to the riverside/San bernardino league. They play in GREAT fields compared to ours.

Anonymous said...

Try playing mlb12 on playstation that will also save your knees and back!!!

Anonymous said...

So when you say everybody has to wear the identical uniforms does that include the belt and the hat and shoes. Just wondering because this is a Sunday league and it looks like an all-star game when I've played because of the different uniforms.

Robert said...

Yes. The rules are the team has to look identical including belts and hats. I know it looks bad the first 2 games of the season but remember there are many players changing teams every season. Also every season we add new teams and they need a little bit of time to get their uniforms in order. I do agree with the uniform rule but lets remember, this league is about baseball.

Thanks for your good comment.

Robert, what did you get yourself into by posting this blog? I'd like to say I've been in this league since day 1. I feel Jose and Robert have done what they intended to do, kept the fees down and kept this league competitive. I drive from Beaumont every Sunday to play in this league. I've had offers to play in other leagues much closer but for me it's about baseball and my teammates, I know that other leagues don't line up appropriate teams for their divisions and this league has adjusted teams where they need to be. I've played in great fields and the not so good, either way on that particular day both teams have the same advantage or disadvantage. You all know what fields we use in this league so it shouldn't be a surprise when you join. Take NABA for example that charges $1,650 per team and $70 for umpires, they don't play in the best fields either.

You have options and those of you that think you're making Jose and Robert rich by playing in this league you are wrong, believe it or not they have full time jobs, they run this league to keep adult baseball going strong. Thank you for running a legit league with what you have to work with.

Anonymous said...

I agree wot you on the both teams having the same advantages and disadvantages but to say they aren't making money is crap. I have a full time job and I side also and believe me I'm not gonna do something if I'm not making money.

Robert said...

If the question is does this league make money the obvious answer is yes. Unfortunately its not what people think. We average around 35k in income. We spend about 24k in field fees. We pay 5k for insurance to cover all fields/schools. We spend 7k on baseballs. So you see there is not alot left over. I hate to even say it but there have been seasons where we actually lost money. Jose and I DO NOT DO THIS to get rich. Have we made money? Yes but if I really wanted to make money, I would just go to work and make alot more than what I make per hour in this league.

Robert

This league is great. Robert and Jose do a fine job. Thanks for all you do, PS this Buds for you!

Anonymous said...

Something that is extremely unfair and unjust. Teams that were used as guinea pigs and lost by many runs to a team in a higher division. Now they are way behind run differential if they end up with the same record in a three way tie. Better yet last season in Triple A four teams were tied in first and were separated by a few runs. Well Angels were left out looking in but I guess they will have a huge advantage after pounding a lower division team. And that's not fair for both divisions involved because a single run can make the difference in winning a division and being left out. I'm sure Angels are happy with their gift game.

Anonymous said...

Gift Game!!!! The Astros are a solid team, they just got smoked by a Better Angels team. And if you are so worried about run Diff, WIN ALL YOUR GAMES!!!!! If you end up tied with a team you didn't get the job done during the season.

Anonymous said...

Angels are one of the worst hitting teams in the upper division. They have great pitching n solid defense that keeps then in games. Look at the numbers they never score more than 7 runs on a good day vs a good team. Don't get me wrong they are a good team but playing a double A team was an advantage for a good upper division team that's been in that division for ever. And on the other side good luck to the Astros making up some ground in their new division. That's not fair either

Robert said...

I can understand the concern over the runs score against teams that are no longer in the division. This is obvious not what I had envision at the start of the season but what are my choices. Do I leave a team in a division to get slaughtered? Most likely the team will quit and now we have byes in the AAA division. Would teams prefer to have byes then to play against teams that are more competitive? Remember the 1st tiebreaker is head to head record. The run differential is the 2nd tiebreakers only when more than 2 teams end up in a tie. In all my years of doing this I had never seen a division end up in a 4 way tie like last season. I never have used teams as "guinea pigs". It serves no purpose. Just for the record, the Pomona Angels didn't make the playoffs last season because they lost to the So Cal Brewers on the last game of the season and NOT because of any run differential.

Robert

It's simple you let the teams decide what division they want to play in .. they know what kind of team they have..and if they tear it up in a lower division next season there forced to move up if they have the majority players still on there roster for the following season.if they didn't do good they go to the lower division .. that's how max did it and I don't understand why you changed it...if you want to play up you climb the ladder..

Robert said...

The teams basically DO DECIDE which division they want to play. The only time I intervene is when the divisions are unbalanced. Just for the record, both of those teams asked to be placed in the AAA division. After a few games, I think its safe to say they both overestimated their teams. So, do I let them suffer thru the entire season? I do not believe that is the best move. The purpose of this league is to have competitive divisions. Forcing teams that have either under or over estimating their teams abilities to stay in the wrong division is not what I believe is in the best interest of this league. I have always told teams at the start of each season, that their placement in a division is not finally until a few games into the season. It has seemed to work for us the last 4 years. Thanks for your input.

Robert

Anonymous said...

Realistically there are 6 YES 6 competitive teams in the upper division. Last season they were all seperated by one whole game. Truthfully the brewers are a double A team. Why not make a super upper division n play each team 3 times for a 15 game season. Just play a double hitter one week to keep divisions on par. Now that would be a super competitive season.

Anonymous said...

I know fisrt hand how a single team thinks it can play in triple a and get your ass handed too us week after week. i did not complain i got what i asked for. so there's no cring in baseball

We can from naba where it cost almost 1,700 dollars to play and have shit fields. And won a championship there and did not get a trophy but was promised warm up jackets and still to this day no jackets. The aztec league is a up n up league

Anonymous said...

In regards to the AAA division I totally agree with the post in regards to having the AAA teams play in there own Super league
Its not fait for the AA teams to make the playoffs and get bounced in the first round but not only bounced but mercied most of the time
PS
Robert and Jose great job guys!!

Robert said...

I don't have a problem with changing the playoff format. We can have a special playoff for the AAA division only. We will have to figure out the format.
Just for the record the last 4 playoffs, the 1st round playoff records of AAA teams vs. AA teams is (8-8). The #6 seed (AA 2nd place) has defeated the #3 seed (AAA 3rd place)the last 4 playoffs straight. In the second round the AA division record is (4-6). Those records are actually not bad. Two AA teams have made it to the finals, with the Pomona Angels winning it all (1-1).

Great comments.

Why is it the fontana baseball league has nothing but high schools and this league has a lot of terrible fields..why is it they charge the same as this league and they could get the fields. Maybe thats why the competition over there is way better than this league..get the fields and everyone will be happy..and keep the prices reasonable..

Anonymous said...

When Angels won it was when the league was not competitive. No Santa Maria, Phillies were not as good. In Max's league a lower division team NEVER ever won in 20+ years. It's always fun for a lower division team to test themselves but reality is u might get lucky in the first round or even get lucky twice and get some breaks with a team that is missing some players but in a championship game the best team almost always wins because everyone shows up. I like the top two divisions going for a championship but I even like more, the top division playing for their own championship n rest of league playing for their championship.

When the Pomona Angels won it all, they defeated Santa Maria in the 1st round. As for the not as competitive, all I can say some seasons there seems to be alot of good teams and other years it seems there are not. I have no control of that. Like I had said earlier, I am not opposed to changing the playoff format but the majority of teams need to be on board.

Robert

Robert said...

I have no control over which fields the Fontana League has. We have the fields that we have. Everyone has the option to play where ever they feel is best for them. Just a little history, the Fontana league was created out of the Pomona League. Max gave Sam a heads up when he was going to dissolve the league and the Fontana League was given the opportunity to secure most of their current fields.
This league was started because alot of teams wanted a different league. We started with only 26 teams and 7 fields. There is no reason why this league would not pick up more High School fields if given the opportunity. Unfortunately we have lost 3 High schools because of our players behavior. All I can say is this league is always trying to secure fields. I know there are a few fields that are subpar but its either those or nothing.

Anonymous said...

For the record, I was in Max's league for 10+ years and jumped ship to Fontana Bseball League since all the upper division teams went that way. But I made my way back and am very happy with management of the league. Joe n Robert are more than understanding like Sammy is and it seems like the only complaints are frivolous so take it from me, keep up the hard work!

Ananomous and I'm not Robert 😜

I have played in the naba, fontana league and the aztec baseball league and i can tell you that naba is over priced and fields are not the greatest fields. And they have a few good fields just like fontana and aztec. like i said before there's no cring in baseball

oh this is not robert or jose good job gents

Funny how all people that have posted up on this blog are all anonymous. Just me and my good friend jerry speak up without hiding our identity?? smh... My team plays at different league and we are very happy there, at first we had a few mis understandings but it has all worked out very well. I am not in any way here to promote my league which is why i wont mention it and im honestly here because my family was always loyal to Max and all my high school friends and close friends of my family play in diff teams in this league which is why i stop by once in awhile to see how my buddies are doing. From my personal point of view, i believe people shouldnt look at what robert does with the money. Its a very tough thing to do, trust me. If running a team has been a hassle for me then i can only imagine running a league. Im not here to defend or help no one neither. I have only met robert once in my lifetime and have talked to jose over the phone, so i cant say i know them. SAm from fontana league is a real cool guy too but to my understanding his son runs that league and he is the coach of one of those hs they play in. were im going with all this is that all league presidents have their own way of getting those fields they play in. Nobody pays for all their running around and calling parks, scheduling, buying baseballs and other equipment, running website, answering these blogs, and all for what so we can all enjoy a good ball game on a sunday afternnon. dont look beyond the point and worry about the service you are paying for only. you are paying to play ball or you paying to see how robert runs his business? if so then why put on the baseball front and why not find another hobbie like running a small business, or maybe even changing careers to detectives or irs workers. If you dont like the Aztec League then just go try other leagues out. They all have something different and many things similar to offer. If that dont work then why not start your own league? Ive thought about it..So all im saying is plz leave robert alone, he is doing what he can and to what it looks like many are content which is why my friends still play there. Also teams make the leagues not the presidents, if you run a team and dont care or dont help out as part of the league then thats were the problem is at. It takes teams and great managers coming together and building a baseball community not a just a league president. So everyone plz stop your crying and start helping. Checkout our website at www.emperorsbaseball.org were just getting started to but my team has big plans as far as taking charge in helping our schools and parks, and volunteering in our local little leagues, and really doing all this for the love of the game...

AMEN BROTHA. Let's move on to another topic where Robert can fix

Unknown said...

Dam bro, that's a hella of a long paragraph, I read most of it; kind of stopped at times cuz I was falling asleep!! But for the most part you hit it right in the spot; this league's ownership is working hard to keep the players happy! But we all have different minds and thoughts so there is always going to be debates about the fields, umps, and ownership!

This is baseball and we supposed to have fun, but at the same time compete and enjoy the two, three hours we have free on Sundays! I am happy with this league, my team Fontana Pacific Tires, and for the most part the fields we play in! Keep it up guys, if it wasn't for u guys we would not be playing baseball on Sundays! Comparing to other leagues, the Aztec Baseball League is up there in quality, competition, and fields! Not the best, but tell me another adult league that runs its business perfectly with no negatives (ups and downs). Keep it up!!!

I like how you set up that poll ..vote for competitive games or if they struggle let them learn there lesson.. ha ha ha.. That was good one.. how do you think everyone will vote ...Who said it wouldn't be competitive? If they start from the bottom and work there way up they deserve to play what they earned and if there a new team and cant hang in there division that they chosed, its up to them to make there team competitive...add new players ,practice etc..I dont think its fair to dominate a division or think you might be in first place and YOU make a change and now they dont make the playoffs..

Robert said...

As of this post, the poll is almost dead even. I do agree if a team has been together for a while and have progressed through the league they deserve the right to play in whatever division they have earned. The problem is team rosters change every season. So some teams talent changes dramatically from one season to the next. The teams that get moved, get moved within the first few games only. So the teams still have 80% of the season to make the playoffs. For example, the Astros and Texanos started in the AAA division and struggled greatly. Now they are in the AA. They are 1-2. They have a great chance to finish the season and maybe even making the playoffs. Otherwise, left in the AAA division I don't think the teams would have finished the season after getting beaten by over 15 runs often. So whenever the eventual forfeiting of games, you would end up with playing either forfeits or byes. I HATE BYES. I really do think this is in the best interest of our league.

Thanks for your input.

Robert

Hey Guys
Why dont we get away from the grace 15 minute rule
I beleive if you cant get the players in the field in the times posted 3 or 4 days earlier
Thats the teams fault and having 15 minutes of ball to play
what do you think?

Anonymous said...

Robert i really think you take another look at the teams you have in the lower division there are some that should be moved up ! when you have a team that is blowing teams out every week especially when they beat a team 19-0 hit 6 home runs thats b's there not a new team to the league its not fair when you have all these teams in a lower division trying to making it to the playoffs its just not right, put them in double A an i bet you they wont be blowing teams out like they are in the lower division! Changs need be made with issues like this great job with the league but please take a look at that issue ...

Robert said...

I know your trying not to mention team names but please do so. I may have missed a team. I agree that there maybe other teams that need to be moved and I will take another look this week.

We all have had a bad game but the diffrents between you and teams that had a bad game is that the other teams did not cry about it. just show up and play with out cring and some field are too small

Anonymous said...

The white soxs in the AB DIVISION have been blowing teams out since game one teams that have a chasing for a playoff spot will never catch up if the run differential is too high cause there scoring 15 runs or more a game teams like that belong in the higher divisions not the lower ones

Anonymous said...

Well the white sox played a b team 2 times in a row pomona giants for some strange reason and the brewers have been blown out everygame so just go with the punches and play ball !!!!
Were not being paid to play so enjoy your Sundays with friends and be safe

Anonymous said...

6 homeruns!? Hahaha. Try 3. And when the field is 240 feet... What can u expect. Arent we grown men playing ball? Or are we 10 year olds? Stop complaining... Hit the cages... And recruit some different players.

Anonymous said...

When a team commits like 25 errors can't u expect to lose that bad? When u can't catch a routine fly ball... Ur gonna get blown out. The White Sox know how to put the ball in play. They don't strike out much. So... Who's more to blame?

Anonymous said...

I think everyone has lost sight of what the real complaint is here... The white sox have a solid team and don't deserve to be moved down to an AB team...this team could and will run with anyone in the league, and just deserve to be givin a chance to be back where they first started at....

I was looking at this White Sox situation and I see that they have played the Pomona Giants. The Pomona Giants were 11-3 in the B division the season before and were moved up to the AB division. I have had to since move them down. They played the Moreno Valley Brewers who are a split team from the Riverside Yankees who were in the AB division. I also tried to move the Moreno Valley Brewers down but they asked not to be moved. The other team the White Soxs have played is the RC Dodgers and they beat them 9-5. At this time, there are 2 other teams in the same division with identical 4-0 record.

I think you miss Little League Bro!! It's adult baseball nobody is turning pro anytime soon. FYI...the riverside/san bernardino league(s) don't pay a $ for the fields. The coaches are involved in these adult leagues to quadruple their income. Coaches know this..BTW you forgot to mentioned the umpire fees for riverside/san bernardino league(s) is twice as much in some cases.

Anonymous said...

The Fontana baseball league doesn't pay for their fields. High school coaches run that league.
Alumni bring teams to the league and the coaches mandate their players to keep playing in the off season to make some $$. That's the reason why the so called "Good" competition.

Fontana doesn't rent parks in order not to pay the city. Smoke and mirrors my friend.

Robert said...

Javier, your are correct in that teams do not decide if they "want" to play extra innings. The rule is that the umpire decides "if time permits". In this particular situation, the umpire for whatever reason thought that teams had to agree to play extra innings. Obviously this is very wrong. I have instructed this umpire to "rest" next week to take the time to learn our league rules. As for you, all I can say is sorry. I know you got screwed but at this point I really don't think I can fix it. If you can think of something equitable for both teams, please let me know. I want to make it fair for both teams. Maybe play you can play a doubleheader?

Sorry,

Anonymous said...

Hey Robert... Have u ever thought about having an official scorekeeper at each game so u would then be able to keep individual stats? For example... League leaders in HR, Avg, ERA, etc.

Anonymous said...

Robert sorry to say it, but if a team wins their division the last season, I think they should be moved to the next division, and stay for at least one season. At least this way another team would have a chance to win the division.

Robert said...

I would love to have an official scorekeeper at each game. The issue is the cost factor. What would we have to pay someone to keep score of a game for 3 hrs. Lets assume they get $20 for each team. So they would make $40. We would then need at least 24 games done each Sunday. Would teams be willing to pay more money for stats? Could we find some one to score keep 24 games? I would love to see it happen.

Robert

Anonymous said...

Take your own stats and lets put the money some where else. Quakes Stadium costs $1500 to rent for the whole day. I'd pay more to have all the championship games there. Also you can't expect your umps to learn the league rules without any consequences. The officiating is at an all time low!! These are little league umps who don't even know half the rules of baseball. Also would it be fair to let my Dad ump most of my teams games!!!!!

Anonymous said...

thats a bunch of bologne... the only field they get is a.b. miller... and why wouldn't you want to play with better competition ?

Anonymous said...

Wow I love how people complain. Grow up and shut up and just play ball. If you suck its not the umpires fault.

Robert said...

I would also love to play our championship game at Quakes stadium. Lets see instead of paying $150 to $200 a day for a field, I would have to raise at least $1300 more. So lets see there are 48 teams. Lets round it to about $30 each team to play 3 games. What do you guys think?

Robert

Anonymous said...

Since there are 5 division why not let each division have their own playoffs. Let the top 8 teams make up the playoffs in each division AAA gets every team in and plays. The other divisions get the top 8 of 10 and it will be a total of 3 games of playoffs and to have each of its divisions have its own winner and makes everybody happy. If 8 teams is too much top 4 of each league and the teams that make playoffs get to play at the best fields and that would make teams play harder to see where they can play if they win and move up. Not that hard to motivate teams once they see what can happen if they play hard.

Anonymous said...

I would pay the extra 50

Anonymous said...

For an extra 50 i would pay it for a chance to play on quakes field . I think we should run this by all the team mgr and see if this would be possiable

Anonymous said...

I don't think that's a good idea. That will defeat the purpose of the season. I only suggested that the upper division have its own playoffs because that is where it's the biggest advantage from divisions. I play on an upper division team n I don't think an all star team from Double A can beat the top two teams in Triple A. Not to knock on Double A teams but they are more on the talent level of the lower divisions. It should just be two big tournaments not a watered down 4-5 tournaments.

Anonymous said...

Let AAA have its own playoff. And there rest do the same not fair if a AA team beats up on a SINGLE A team. But I do agree there is a big difference in talent between AAA and AA. Let AAA have its own playoffs.

Anonymous said...

I was all for AAA having their own tournament but it does not look as competitive as last season. Only 8 teams and less than half do not look as strong as last season. Keep it the same as last season until AAA gets a bit stronger or has 10 teams competitive teams. AA looks like it has some decent teams, maybe they can get on a roll and make some noise with the big boys.

Robert said...

I agree it would be great to get them back but I don't see us getting them back for a long time. The incident there went from the school, to the school district, to the ciy counsel. Then there were some some money issues. So I dont see it happening. Lets just try to make sure we can keep the ones we got. :)

Robert said...

I know some player believe we do not try to get more/better fields but the honest truth is that we are always trying to find fields. On our way to our games, we scout other fields then during the week try to make contact. All most all schools do NOT want to rent us the fields because of the perceived problems they believe come from renting a field to an adult baseball league. The only reason schools are willing to rent us their fields is because the need CASH. I lived in Chino, their school district has a great reputation of taking care of their schools. With that said, We contacted Chino, Chino Hills, and Don lugo High Schools about renting their JV fields. The answer was NOT INTERESTED! Trust me we will continue our quest to find more fields.

Upland Scorpions vote to play against AAA come playoffs.

Dodgers Cards said...

AA should play AAA for a League Championship, the other 3 divisions should play for the other League Championship. To be the best you have to beat the best. There shouldn't be 3 championships. Teams sandbag just to win a trophy. League Champion is the highest award, why make it so easy? I've also always said trophy sizes should be different. If I can win the same size trophy in A or Rookie, what incentive is there for teams to move up?

Beaver Nation said...

The Current Playoff Format works just fine. Every year there are upsets in each division. Last season in AAA the 8th Seed Beat the one seed and the 6th seed Beat the 3rd Seed. I agree with the Scorpions, Leave it how it is. The Playoffs give every team a chance to see how they Stack up with the Next Level. I love the Idea of Paying a little extra to have a chance to Play the Championship game at Quakes stadium. I even bet you could do some type of promotion with the Quakes organization to get it for cheaper, like advertising on the website or having all the Managers Volunteer for a day. Shit lets have a car wash or something to raise money. Everyone wants to throw out there two cents, but lets act on it!!!!

Dodgers Cards said...

Dont get me wrong, who wouldnt want to play at Quake Stadium? The problem is higher league fee and support from the teams. From the beginning of the season, you can just about tell whos gonna make the playoffs with the exception of a couple surprises. Are teams that just play for fun regardless of making the playoffs going to be willing to pay extra? Probably not. Let alone make the Championship game. I think Montclair High and Jurupa Valley are the nicest fields in the league and should be used for Championship games. I would rather see money put towards making the Championship games a league event. Maybe a league barbeque at the Championship games, an announcer and trophy presentation. You can do raffles to raise money at these games, to maybe think of Quake Stadium in the future. Ive played at Quake stadium, and for the cost of playing 1 game there and the amount of support we would get from teams in the league to help, I vote against Quake Stadium..... for now.

Robert? I say you add a new comment thread; for example an umpire question? I am suggesting the umpire question because we (Fontana Pacific Tires) had probably the worst umpire crew in the league and we need to get the word out about this issue! We still won the game, but I do know the other team had some comments to say and the game before us as well!

Some other comment thread suggestions; maybe a playoff type question? League rules? Future possible additions to the league?

Anonymous said...

Quick question why do playoff teams have to pay for the playoffs it should go with the season I don't get it

Anonymous said...

Better pitching!? Hahahahaha! The Rancheros gave up the least amount of runs in the entire league going into this past Sunday. And they had two decent pitchers on the mound Sunday. Gave up one HR and another that woulda gone out if there was a fence in left center. The Sox ain't the champs yet, but good pitching, good hitting, and pretty good defense is a good combo.

Anonymous said...

This is a great question! The trophy is $200 x 2= $400. Their are Fifty plus teams so why not just charge each team an extra $10 ($500+)? I think it is easier doing that but I know teams are going to complain about raising the price but if it is for a playoff fee, every team should be ok. Every team thinks they are going to make the playoffs before game 1 then reality kicks in. But this is a great question, why have to pay to get in the playoffs to pay for a trophy when it should be a plus to get in the playoffs!

Robert said...

Great minds think alike. The first thing i did when i took over this league was try to eliminate the uniform rule and the trophy fee. In hindsight I was probably wrong with the uniform rule but I did try to eliminate the playoff fee. The problem has always been that many of our managers are followers of Max from the old Pomona League. They like the way things Max ran things. So when I took it up for vote I was out voted like 29-1 to keep the playoff fee. I hope in the future I can convince the managers to change from this way of thinking and eliminate the fee. I believe a playoff team should be rewarded not charged a fee.

I'm tired of reading about the white sox prior years they were getting their butts kicked, so they got a couple of new players proably a little to good for their division that's why they are winning now but they are still in the bottom division if they think their so good come up and play with the big boys and see what u guys really got quit the B.S. so don't be so proud u guys are bottom of the barrel

Playoff fee is ridiculous the league should handle this in other words if I win I'm paying for the trophy I pay for the playoffs I highly dought the trophy is 200 bucks the league is pocketing money with the playoffs

U know what this white sox will run with who ever wants to play.... Ya a bad season happens now and then..... That's why u change up players and do what u need to try and win.... Seriously its getting old with the sox issue if that's the only way they can win a championship playing in a lower division an blowing out there opponents every week its pretty sad put that talent that is so good with the same kind of talent an come play with the big boys ...

Yeah! Forget the White Soxs; we should be talking about the real teams up in AAA! I wish the White Soxs the best of luck this season and hopefully so you guys can move up and challenge the AA and AAA teams! There is some very good teams in AA as well and the AAA is very very competitive, 1-8. Lot's of good pitching and some clutch hitting...if they (White Soxs) ever move up to AAA good luck in challenging the Upland Phillies and Santa Maria, those two teams are at the top right now! You can't also count out the Fontana Pacific Tires and Pomona Angels.

And please guys, don't be shy and put your name at least! Or better yet get a Google account so we can better identify you! We are all adults here and all comments are well respected!

I swing at every first pitch its usually the only time I get a fastball why waste the best pitch you'll probably see

Anonymous said...

Robert, as a pitcher, I love it. Nothing better than one pitch, one out. Well, I take it back. A 5-6 pitch inning is better but that's how they come together. But on the other end, I wanna see my guys working the pitcher and wearing him out.

Anonymous said...

If the first pitch is there of course you jump all over it. but to be a first pitch hitter reguardless if its there or not is not a good practice to have

Anonymous said...

First pitch (down the middle) early in the game ok, in close game runners on, pitcher is struggling, take pitches. He might be nervous and not be able to find the zone. Oh yeah I think I need to mention the White Soxs to be on this blog. There I did it.

Mondy- AAA Div. FPT said...

I was looking how many teams the league has and how little bit of teams make the playoffs. Just a suggestion but I think more teams from the lower division should have more teams in the tournaments. The problem here is you guys do not want the league to go on any longer than it has to. Very understandable with all the rain delays and problems in finishing out the season that extends it. The tournament now used I made it for Max years ago. But I have a solution: (It is very easy to complain about something with no logical solution but I think I have one that relates to what the MLB wild card has gone to).

I believe every team that is in second place in AA should make the playoffs. If you include 6 teams from AA (since there are 3 sub-divisions-12 teams) and 4 teams from AAA (of 8 teams) it makes 10 teams. The #1 & #2 seeds gets a bye in the wild card round. But the Wild card teams that are All the 2nd place AA teams and the 4th place in AAA play a double hitter, winner of those games play the #1 & #2 seeds. That will be the first week. The middle teams play as normal. Then the second week is as normal with the Final Four.

I also have a solution to include more teams in the bottom 3 divisions which makes it balanced. Each division sends top 3 teams making it a 9 team tournament. The #1 seed gets a bye in the wild card round. The bottom 2 teams AB #3 & B #3 play the wild card game with winner playing A #1 in a double hitter.

This style tournament adds more teams which keeps teams in the hunt for longer in the season preventing teams from dropping out and also makes the fee for the playoffs less money without adding anymore weeks to the season. I know people are very stubborn and do not like change, and like you said, "like keeping it as Max had it" but I think this is only beneficiary to both the teams and the league.

Robert said...

As a Manager, I think swinging at the first pitch should be the exception, not the rule. There are situations when swing at a first pitch is ok but think about it. What does swinging at a first pitch accomplish? From an offensive standpoint you get a fastball. that's good. Other than that you don't get to see his other pitches that he might throw at you in later innings. I still think that working the pitch count into your favor will produce the same likely fastball as the first pitch. As a pitcher, your swinging at a first pitch is a godsend. I conserve my pitches and you don't have any assurances that even though you swing at a first pitch fastball that your going a hit it well.

Robert

as a pitcher if you are a first pitch hitter i will throw you high n tight or change speeds you will not get a pitch to drive.

New topic. What do you guys think of batting 10 guys. I know most like pro baseball rules but not 1 of us are pros. This is a competetive sunday league. 1st benifit, if you have lots of guys on roster you can please more of them. 2nd I have been to games when other teams only have 9 guys. 1 guy gets hurt or thrown out game over. If you have ten the worst that can happen is you get 1 auto matic out every time in the batting order. I like to play, but to have a game finish in the 2nd inning or 5th sucks. i look forward to every sunday. If this is not for everyone it can be an option for a team. At least in the bottom divisions.

Anonymous said...

yes i want to bat 10 it would make it easier and we dont play mlb rule because we have a meucry rule so that go's out the window. sosay lets bat 10

Anonymous said...

Go play softball if u want to bat 10..........

Anonymous said...

softball you bat as many as you want.........thats the problem everyone looses sight of what we are doing we are paying to play so weshould be able to bat one extra batter. i know i know you get paid yeah ok i love hard just asmuch as the other guy but lets get real yeson 10

Anonymous said...

yes on 10 at bats those of you who say no must not be managers. trying to keep people positive and show up is hard. plus i like the idea of not cancelling a game because no more players to put in. what if you made all your changes and some one gets hurt you are done.

Robert said...

I personally like the 10 man batting order. As a manager it gives me the option to bat 10 when I have too many players show up and 9 when I don't. The only issue I have with batting 10 players is when a teams starts with 10 then wants to make changes or worse after a player gets injured. You can't start the game with 10 players and finish the game with 9 batters. The other issue I've seen is the 10th batter goes to play shortstop and the shortstop is moved to the 10th batter. Not good. Of course the other issue is that there are alot of baseball purist that do not like this rule and then there are some that do like this rule. If we can come to some kind of an agreement and some good rules to cover those possible problematic incidents, I don't see why we can't have that as an option in our league.

Robert

Anonymous said...

If we are purist then lets only bat 9, no 15 min start time grace period, no mercy rule, no time limit full 9 innings or more, no seperate divisions (well may be national and american. No aaa aa a ab b. Did not think so its sunday baseball. none of us are going pro. If you do i will be your biggest fan. Travel ball is very competetive and they bat 12. they have a better chance at playing pro ball. Plus everyone pays to play. yes on 10 , 11 , 12. 12 max

Anonymous said...

now we are getting somewhere theirs a more than a few of us think we should do this so lets put it to a vote

Anonymous said...

I think batting 12 is a little much. I personally would love to see a mandatory 9 inning game. Especially with most fields only having 2 games a day. I think the mercy rule should be just that... If the team that is getting blown out has had enough, then they should be able to say they have had enough. Batting 10 is also a good idea.

Robert said...

For those of you that did not attend the league meeting, this is what was decided. 1st of all, the 10 batter rules was voted down like 20-2. The playoffs will be as follows. Top 4 teams of each division will make the playoffs. The B division vs. the AB division. The AA vs. A division. The AAA division will play #1 seed vs #4 seed and #2 seed vs. #3 seed. Single game elimination for the 1st round. In the second round it will be a best of 3 series.

Mr Keepinitreal said...

Full 9 innings is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard for Sunday league. Can you imagine how long a game would take with bad defense, bad pitching, and decent hitting? You're talking about a 4 plus hour game. Now your are talking about compensation for that. A no time limit 9 inning game you're looking at $80 minimum umpire fee. Idk about you guys but it's hard enough to get $55. It sounds good for players but lets be a little logical. I don't want to show up at 12 pm for a game n have to wait to start my game n get home past 4:30. One more thing an EH or extra hitter is a great option to have. I wouldn't use it but it should still be an option. It only benefits the other team cuz most of the time the extra hitter is not one of your better hitters but a bench player that wasn't going to start. The resolution with that is quiet easy, that player is an extra hitter n can't be inserted anytime in a game even if your ninth player gets injured. Forfeit if you use all your substitutes n do not have any more players.

Anonymous said...

Keepingreal i would like to have option to put him in and avoid forfeit. We want to play

Mr Self-appointed Prob Solver said...

That's a valid point but then we get into a grey area and that's what we want to avoid. What is a real injury, what if he is faking an injury after a few errors because he wants a sub? Then if that player is injured what do we do when his batting spot comes up? Is he automatic out? These are the problems that need to be avoided. That's why we need to choose if we want to use an EH-extra hitter WISELY.

The only thing I wish for this league is on the website, to keep track of individual league leaders in hitting and pitching. I understand that would be a hard thing to do with 50 teams. I know a few leagues in the i e have there websites with homerun leaders rbis and so forth. For this league to be the best in the valley, it needs to add player stats to the
website.

Anonymous said...

Keep tour own stats ur not getting paid to play or to win a title

Anonymous said...

It would be very cool but it is very time consuming. Have you ever kept track of your weekly stats for your own team? Well multiply that times 50. Robert already has his hands full with updating website, scheduling, fields, answering back to dumb suggestions, etc. What can be a way of doing this without making it so much work? Is there any way each team can go on a certain link/website where they can update their own stats Robert?

Anonymous said...

The only STATS that you should be concerned about is WINS and loses. It doesn't matter if you go 4-4 with a homerun and lose the game. The only player who cares about STATS is not a team player. If your worried about STATS go play MLB on playstation 3. I'm sure you can enjoy your STATS there.

Obviously you are in Sunday league, If you are that good, you would be playing for the minors or MLB. Calm down and get a life, if you are so worried about other people's stats then go take them yourself...

double check on that old metal stake at bon view. (its from where an old base used to be) just ask anyone who has played 3rd base there. *careful when sliding*

I see a few questions regarding the update of the website. I get the results from Jose on Monday morning. So while I am at work I try to update the website. It usually takes me a few hours. So depending on my work, I will finish it before I go home on Monday. If I don't finish it while I at work then I will finish it at home no later than Monday evening.

Yes I know that I didn't finish the website last Monday. That's only because I had to get an X ray and MRI on my knee. So trust me, I do my best to finish as soon as I can.
